- In a Quota Tournament, players earn points for their scores on each hole. The goal of the game is to make enough points to beat your pre-set goal.
- Points are awarded as follows: 1 point for bogeys, 2 points for a par, 4 points for birdies, and 8 points for eagles. Handicaps are used in the Quota Tournament, and they are used to determine the quota goal.
- The pre-set goal can be determined in two ways:
- 36 Points Goal
In this version, every player begins with a certain number of points that are determined by their course handicap. Players then have to beat the target of 36 points. The player who exceeds the goal by the largest margin wins the tournament.
For example, if Player A’s course handicap is 10, then they start off with 10 points. So, Player A tees off at 10 points. If they bogey the first hole, they earn a point and have 11 points, and so on. If Player A finished at 40 points, they beat the quota by 4 points. If they finish at 29 points, they finish at -7 points.
- Handicap subtracted from 36
In this variation, the players begin at 0 points. Then, the score they have to beat is calculated by subtracting their course handicap from 36. For example, if Player A has a course handicap of 10, then 36 – 10 = 26. So, 26 is the score they have to beat to win the game.
The winner of the game is the player who exceeds their quota by the most.
Quota Tournament in Teams:
The Quota Tournament can also be played in teams, although it is not as common as individual play. In a team tournament, any team format in which every player plays their own ball throughout the round can be used. The individual quotas of the players in a team are calculated, and then the final scores are combined at the end.
For example, a team consists of players A, B, C, and D who finish at +4, -5, +1, and +3, respectively. Adding them up results in +3. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
