  • The term “Pro-Am” is short for “Professional-Amateur”. This is a one-day golf tournament format in which a professional golfer is teamed up with a group of three or four amateur golfers, depending on the number specified by the tournament organizers.
  • In these tournaments, amateur golfers get to play with tour professionals or even celebrities.
  • The professional golfer plays their tee while the amateurs play from up tees.
  • This tournament is usually played in the scramble format, where the best shot is selected, the second shot is played from there, and so on, until the ball is holed.
  • The best ball scores are combined to form the team score for each hole, with the amateurs using their handicaps. Handicaps are limited to 24 for men and 36 for women.
  • Birdies and eagles are commonplace in a Pro-Am tournament, and the winning score is often below 60, somewhere in the mid-50s.
